ELA Test Prep Activities In Boom Learning

3-5· All Freebies

It’s that time of year. ELA state tests are around the corner and the urgency to test prep is even more.

But who says you need to test prep the conventional pencil and paper way. Use the medium that students love – technology.

ELA Test Prep Activity

Make it easy on yourself too. No grading and data at the tip of your fingertips. How time-saving is that?

Here’s one fun way you can test prep the digital way:

With Boom Cards in Boom Learning

So what are Boom Cards?

To put it simply, they are digital task cards.

And what makes them so special?

They are digital – no printing (unless you want to), and best of all they are self-grading and provide valuable data.

Integrated Learning

Combine this use of technology with test prep-style questions and you’ve got a powerful medium to prepare your students for the state tests.

Whether it be multiple-choice questions

or sequencing of steps, students will have so much fun that they will gladly test prep with little complaint.

How to Use

Once you have access to the deck, simply go to your ‘library’ and select ‘Action > Assign’.

If you are assigning via Google Classroom, copy the ‘Hyperplay Link’ and insert it in your created assignment to schedule.

Valuable Data

This kind of test prep review has a dual benefit. Other than benefitting the student, it benefits the teacher as well.

How so?

By alleviating the need for – marking!

Once students submit each test prep card, they get instant feedback in terms of their response being correct or incorrect. If incorrect, they have the opportunity to select the correct option. This is a classic case of learning by trial-and-error.

The teacher also gets a summary report of each student’s Plays, Mastery, Time, Average, Best, and Last data for each deck.

However, to get data on your students’ performance, you do need to sign up for the paid version at the Boom Learning site.

Else you can join for free and assign the ‘fast pin’ link to your students via Google Classroom or any other learning platform.

If using the fast pin option with your students, remember it expires in 14 days so it needs to be accessed by students before then.

Ongoing Test Prep

Preparing students for testing needs to be on a consistent basis, and not just when testing time draws near. So this test-prep freebie is part of a bigger collection.

Use a test prep activity from this collection throughout the year and your students wouldn’t have to worry when testing time approaches, for you have subtly prepared them to be resilient.

Word of warning though – Boom cards are highly addictive. Students will simply love working on them.

Boom Learning is sure the perfect medium to test prep your students without fuss.
