3-5· All Freebies

I love when classrooms are filled with motivational quotes! Quotes show us how powerful language can be, and my students always loved to read the different quote posters I had on my walls. This set of free reading posters, filled with motivational reading quotes, will be the perfect addition to your classroom library.

Your classroom library should be a focal point in your classroom. What better way to make it more appealing than with fun, on-trend posters all about developing a love of reading?

Building Reading Stamina

It is so important for us to have our students build reading stamina. Especially our upper elementary test takers- those reading passages are getting longer and longer!

The first step towards reading stamina is motivating students to read things other than their textbooks. Hang these posters around your room for inspiration and motivation. Encourage students to visit your class library and find books that interest them!

Once they’re hooked on a book, talk about the purpose of independent reading time. It’s to READ. Not hold a book up to their face and flip the pages. You’d be surprised how many students don’t know the difference!

Independent Reading Accountability

Many teachers have unfortunately given up on independent reading tasks because they fear it’s a waste of time. Most of the time though, students just need to be held accountable for their time! Whether it’s through an exit slip, graphic organizer, or response journal, have students DO something with the information they acquire during silent reading. The accountability will keep them on task!
