Teaching Arthur’s Halloween
I can teach just about any reading comprehension strategy or literacy skill with Arthur’s Halloween. There are so many ways you can teach reading with this engaging text; I will typically use it for two or three weeks in October. In my experience, students never get tired of this book and are always begging to keep going. Teaching comprehension, fluency, phonics/spelling patterns, and writing naturally flow with this Halloween favorite! It doesn’t matter if you teach first, second, third, or even fourth grade… all students really get into this book.
Arthur’s Halloween is great for teaching…
- making connections
- story elements
- characterization
- metacognition
- sequencing
- fact & opinion
- main idea
- cause & effect
- spelling patterns
- opinion writing
… just about any literacy skill or reading strategy you want to teach with a fiction book.
Putting a smile on my students’ faces and encouraging them to dig deep into the text is so easy with this book! My students have always found connecting to Arthur and his friends easy.
