Inspire Gratefulness via Writing Activities
Teaching students how to feel grateful can be a difficult task, but it’s really not impossible. Now, let’s throw writing instruction into the big mix. Keep reading the article for some simple writing activities to inspire gratitude in your students this Thanksgiving season.
Here are a few of my very favorite yet simple ways to encourage students to feel gratitude and share it through their writing skills.
Writing Ideas for Gratitude
- Thankful Letters: Students can write thankful letters to friends, family, classmates, or school personnel to show how thankful they are for them.
- Gratitude Journal: Kids can create and write in a daily gratitude journal to show how much they are thankful for each simple day. Download the FREE I Am Thankful List here.
- I Am Thankful Posters: Together in small groups, students can draw pictures to illustrate their feelings and thoughts of gratitude while working together with their classmates.
- Gratitude Poem: They can write poems to express what they are thankful for and why. This is an area where kids can really show off their creativity.
- Thanksgiving Story: Write a creative Thanksgiving story that includes different elements about being thankful and showing gratitude for the other people around them.
Incorporating Writing into Instruction
I love incorporating writing into just about any lesson to learn a new concept and practice writing at the same time.
