Write a Thanksgiving Story with vocabulary words.

The Fall season is a wonderful time for students to write creatively. Thanksgiving is an especially wonderful time to encourage students to use newly learned vocabulary words to write with.

5 Steps to Thanksgiving Story Writing

It is so easy to use Thanksgiving-themed vocabulary words to get your students to write. Below you will find 5 simple steps for your students to begin writing their Thanksgiving stories.

1. List of Thanksgiving Words

Create your list of Thanksgiving words that you would like for your students to use in their creative writing stories.

2. Introduce & Practice Vocabulary Words

Introduce each of the vocabulary words. Practice the Thanksgiving words by using them in sentences, drawing visuals, and role-playing the meanings.

3. Story prompts!

I like to give my students a few creative storywriting prompts to give them something they can start writing with – an inspiration to get going. Example: Oh no! The turkey escaped and….

4. Creative Use of Vocabulary

Students will use the vocabulary words in their creative stories and can even cross them off one by one as they use them in their writings.

5. Share Stories

Encourage your students to share their Thanksgiving stories aloud, making sure to discuss the vocabulary words again.
