The one part of my program that I love the best is my calendar. You can cram so much learning into this part of the day, such as
- counting
- one-to-one correspondence
- time (days, months, year)
- seasons
- holidays/birthdays
- reading
- writing
I like to have my calendar organized well in advance. At this time of year, I usually start looking it over . Summer is just around the corner for me but I’m already thinking about what needs to be done for next years class.
What about you? Have you already been enjoying the beautiful weather? Have you been relaxing around the pool? Or are you like me?
I never seem to stop thinking about my next group of children during the summer months. I’m working on updating parts of my program even before my summer has started, like now. When I start to get my calendar organized for the upcoming year there are some common questions that I ask myself.
Things I ask myself before I get started:
- Are there sets that need replacing?
- Do I need to replace any pieces?
- Are there any sets that are looking worn from overuse?
- Do I need to print, laminate and cut?
- Are there pieces missing?
- Am I just plain old tired of the ones I’ve been using and just want a fresh look?
- Do I have a way of organizing all the pieces?
- Do I want a new theme?
Once I have decided what needs updating and what needs replacing, I start looking for the supplies that I need.
Supplies needs when updating your calendar:
- Fresh monthly numbers
- New monthly headers
- Cardstock or paper
- Printer ink
- Laminating
- Scissors
