The Math Mountain Ice Cream Cones is a sweet open-ended activity. Students use ice cream scoops to make a bond of three numbers forming a math mountain.
All teachers like activities and items that serve multiple purposes. That means we prep once and can sit back and enjoy the fruits of our labor.
The Math Mountain Ice Cream Cone activity is designed to have several ways to play.
1-Students independently complete various math mountains.
2-All the cards are turned face down in the center of the playing area, as students in turn draw a scoop they try to make a complete math mountain. Each time a player gets three scoops to make a complete mountain they take an ice cream cone to put under their ice cream. The student with the most complete ice cream cones wins the game.
3-Play a “go fish” type game with the scoops. Students ask for a specific number, if the player does not have it, they tell the player to go fish.
Once printed, cards are ready to copy, laminate, and cut out. For flexibility print off as many scoops as you need. The more scoops the more mountain possibilities. Groups of scoops can be differentiated for various student groups.
