Back To School Bulletin Board Ideas For Teachers

I just love checking out back to school bulletin board ideas for teachers, I just can’t help it, I love bright colourful displays in my classroom, they make me feel happy.

But I am also mindful of what my students sensitivities and individual needs are and this is something you also need to consider before you start decorating your classroom.

Although making beautiful classrooms can take a lot of time there is actual research that proves that the classroom environment has a impact on student achievement levels, so creating bulletin boards is totally worth the effort!

Promoting Growth Mindset To build Number Sense

If your students feel like they are ‘not a math person’ then you should try promoting and building a growth mindset in your class.

One of the most effective ways to do this is by using Number Talk strategies. Number Talks are just that… talks about numbers!

They are short discussions between teachers and students about how to solve a particular math problem. The focus is not on the correct answer but the strategies, processes and thinking taken to come to a reasonable solution.

Math Talk Posters for bulletin boards

Using number talks are an highly effective method to build student success levels. BUT… you can’t expect students to be able to have a mathematical discussion without providing an appropriate scaffold for them.

We all know that if we just ask students to explain how they worked something out they often will stare blankly  or shrug their shoulders or even say ‘I just know the answer!” They are not aware of their critical thinking process.

This is where the Number Talk Posters come in!

We have created 30 posters prompts that model how to think and talk through solving math problems.

They are perfect for a back-to-school Math bulletin board and will help all your students to become self-confident, fearless mathematical thinkers!
