I have developed a series of art projects that use 3″X 3″ squares that I plan to share here on Classroom Freebies. For the first one, I had the students cut diagonal lines across the squares to make trapezoids. We used the word parallel to describe the opposite sides of the square. Once the squares were cut, each shape only had one set of parallel sides.
Next they rearranged the small trapezoids to make a strip of larger trapezoids. We created a strip at a time like these and glued them to another piece of construction paper for the final project.
